Our History

Christian Fellowship Bergen began with an open home and a big heart. In a living room filled with young and old people, a small prayer group was born in the mid-1970s. The group was led by Noralv Askeland, and in 1986 he was appointed as pastor of the church, which then had about 80 adult members.

From 1985 and onwards, the church has been assisted and overseen by Keri Jones - who, with his apostolic ministry, has been very important to the church. In the following 10 years, the membership exploded. This led us to our current facilities at Møllendalsbakken 6, which we took over in 1995.

A new generation continues

A few years later, Noralv Askeland was released from his duties as pastor to spend more time on the international ministry, and a broad leadership team was established, led by Morten Askeland, who had previously been responsible for the youth ministry. (Morten is not related to Noralv Askeland, despite having the same last name). Since then the growth has continued, and the local congregation now counts about 600 members and is quite diverse when it comes to age, ethnicity and social background.

Currently, Christian Fellowship Bergen is both a center for church ministry in the Bergen region, and a growing international missions and humanitarian aid center. New, local churches have been started in Sotra, Nordhordland and Osterøy.

Several young people from the church have also started various types of prayer and fellowship groups in other parts of the country, either after completing their studies or with job transfers. So the story continues...
